Customer Introductions

ICAN Co., Ltd. Temporary Construction Division

ICAN Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as " ICAN") is a company based in Hino City, Tokyo that rents and sells temporary construction materials and welfare equipment in a variety of fields. In particular, temporary construction materials have been our core business since our founding in 1980, and today we offer a one-stop service that covers everything from scaffolding drawings to material construction. We have gained wide support from our customers and continue to contribute to the development of local communities by providing value at a wide variety of construction sites.

■Background of the introduction

When  ICAN undertakes scaffolding work, the process will proceed as follows.

①Meeting with customer ➝ ②Site survey ➝ ③Scaffolding drawing creation ➝ ④Scaffolding erection work ➝ ⑤Scaffolding dismantling work

While veteran employees handle (1), younger sales employees handle (2), (4), and (5), and in-house employees in charge of drafting (3). At  ICAN, information was mainly communicated among employees through "face-to-face communication," "telephone calls," and "photo communication," but the company was looking for a smoother and more efficient method. The company was also considering the introduction of a more effective training method to adequately train young employees.

■How we received your request

Mr. Yamazaki, Managing Director of ICAN, had seen a prime contractor using a remote presence system to conduct site surveys, safety patrols, and process meetings.
He felt that this could be applied to his own company's issues, and began gathering information on remote communication using remote presence systems.

They actively visited construction industry events held at Tokyo Big Sight and Makuhari Messe, where they were briefed by numerous manufacturers and vendors on cameras and web conferencing systems.

This process is extremely important because it will greatly affect the degree of utilization of the tool after its introduction.

Generally, product explanations at exhibition halls focus on introducing the features and advantages of the company's products.
ACT-ONE Yamaichi, we offer a service in which we provide products with different features of remote presence systems so that customers can compare and contrast them using actual equipment.

After receiving interest in our service from ICAN, a comparison demonstration and test use of the candidate equipment was conducted, leading to the adoption of this service.

■Points for Product Selection

  • Easily portable due to small equipment and few accessories
  • Easy camera operation and operation to check recorded data
  • Wide angle of view makes it easy to confirm necessary information during site surveys and scaffold inspections with video images.
  • Even when it is difficult to convey a sense of size with video, information can be conveyed audibly by reading out the call name or other methods.
  • Details of scaffolds can be checked on video (e.g., net tying points, open spaces between scaffolds, fixed status of guardrails, and status of wall holding material attachment).

■Customer Comments

Mr. Kojima, sales representative

We have started using the camera in field survey situations. Before we started renting, we were able to borrow a demo unit so we could try things out and get familiar with the camera as well as get instructions on how to use it."

I think the biggest advantage of the camera is that it helps newcomers go to the field by themselves. When you are new to the field, it is easy to make mistakes or overlook things due to nerves, so having the support of others through the camera is a great first step to going into the field with confidence."

In addition to the above, ICAN is also considering using the remote presence system to help veterans understand the on-site situation, refer to recorded data when creating drawings, work at night, and collaborate with subcontractors.

ACT-ONE Yamaichi will continue to strengthen its product and response capabilities for remote presence systems and offer even more useful proposals to its customers.
