[Work Style Reform] Revealed! Childcare leave and paid vacation acquisition rate at ACT-ONE Yamaichi

Taking childcare leave for men is attracting attention as part of work style reform. Additionally, paid vacation is an essential element for the health and work-life balance of working people.

This time, we will introduce childcare leave and paid leave acquisition at ACT-ONE Yamaichi.

1. Childcare leave is an environment in which both women and men can easily take it.

Japan is promoting childcare leave for men, and from April 2022, it will be mandatory for men to individually inform and check their awareness of childcare leave.

At ACT-ONE Yamaichi, we believe that it is important for employees to have a correct understanding of the childcare leave system, and to create an environment in which not only the individual taking the leave but also the entire company can take it.

Our company's childcare leave status is as follows. (As of March 2024)

  • Childcare leave acquisition rate for women = 100%
  • Rate of childcare leave taken by men = 60% (estimated)

The percentage of men taking childcare leave was 0% in 2018, but the percentage of men taking childcare leave has increased rapidly since then. You can see that this has increased compared to the average acquisition rate for companies nationwide (published by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare).
The period of leave is basically one month, and many employees take leave for one to four months.

Voices from male employees who took childcare leave

Employee A (Equipment Center)

I think the acquisition itself was very good. When I thought that my wife would have to take care of the child by herself for the three months I had earned, I imagined how difficult it must have been.
By working together, we were able to significantly reduce the burden on one person, and above all, it was very meaningful to be able to watch my child grow even during the short period of childcare leave. did.
I also believe that I was able to reduce the burden of housework and childcare (physically and mentally) on my family.

Employee B (business section)

It depends on the job type and Locations, but I think it's a relatively easy environment for men to take childcare leave. To be honest, it was hard for me to lose my income while I was taking childcare leave, and I realized that I needed to save money, but in the end I am glad I took childcare leave.
As for the benefits, first of all, I was able to realize how difficult it is to raise a child, and I was able to become more cooperative with the family. I also had more time to interact with the children, and I felt that it was very beneficial in terms of education.

Employee C (management department manager)

I was worried about the job I was getting, but I was happy because I was able to do housework and take care of my children! (After his return, he seemed to have a happy aura, haha)
I think it was a very valuable experience because such an opportunity comes only a few times in a life (some people only have it once, or not at all). Spending so much time with my newborn has changed my outlook on life!
Also, by being away from the company for a certain period of time, I was able to reconsider how I think and approach work.

2. Paid vacation taken = average usage rate is 11.2 days per year

ACT-ONE Yamaichi provides 5 days of paid vacation when joining the company, 5 days after six months, and then every year in April, a number of days of paid vacation based on the number of years of employment.
There are various types of paid leave, such as paid time off and half-day leave, allowing employees to take time off that suits their lifestyle. The rate of paid leave taking is high due to the convenience of being able to deal with emergencies such as having to go to the hospital or receiving a call from your child's nursery school.

ACT-ONE Yamaichi also provides paid nursing care leave and family care leave. The decision on whether or not to pay salaries is up to the company, but at ACT-ONE Yamaichi, employees who have preschool children express their gratitude because they are paid.

As mentioned above, we received positive comments from male employees who took childcare leave.
We are also promoting the use of various paid leave systems so that employees can value work-life balance and enrich their private lives.

Nowadays, it is said that people live 100 years, and it is the person, not the company, who evaluates their life.

"We aim to be a company where each employee is healthy and can achieve their own happiness with the cooperation of their families."

We will continue our efforts to realize ACT-ONE Yamaichi's management philosophy, and we would like to continue to be a company that is close to the lives of our employees.
